The first thing that corporations without a large amount of funding for their green programs can do is
1. Shut down computers completely DAILY. Do not just log off. Encourage employees to NOT use standby mode because that still uses energy. Have management check that all computers are off at night before leaving the facility.
2. Turn off all printers, scanners and fax machines DAILY. Over the weekend unplug all unnecessary devices.
3. Think ahead. Corporations can gradually begin purchasing laptops when current desktop computers begin to malfunctions. Desktops always have to be plugged in versus laptops that use batteries.
4. Digitalize your files and reduce paper ways. Switch to a fax modem instead of a fax machine. Fax modems can save paperless documents. Adobe Acrobat ( we will discuss later) creates paperless forms that can be transmitted, filled out and sent back by the web
5. Use recycled, post consumer content, minimum chlorine bleached paper. Use misprints as scratch paper in the office.
6. Make employees include a tagline on their email stating: Please think carefully about the environment before printing this email.
7. When printing is unavoidable, use the DRAFT mode, and make sure double-sided printing in your default. This will help save paper and ink.
8. Set up corporate sponsored carpools and encourage carpooling.
